The routing and account numbers at the bottom of your bank check represent the S.W.I.F.T. Banking System (Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications). To transfer money to your family, friend or business associate, you would need their bank routing and account number. Major banks and transaction processing companies have simplified transactions with debit, credit card and electronic payment apps, but at the end of the day the Swift Banking System with routing and account numbers, are what ultimately moves money from bank to bank, worldwide in 3 - 5 business days (sometimes even longer).
